SAILING FOR ADULTS Advanced Sailing
The instructor will review the basic principles of sailing, what makes the sailboat go, right-of-way rules, points of sail, knots, launching and landing and more. New skills that you will learn in this class include rigging a sloop, sailing with two sails, healing under control, sail trim, tacking and gybing properly, reaching, boat balance, sailing upwind and downwind properly, getting out of irons, physics of boat handling, righting your sloop and communications between the skipper and crew. Class includes at least 12 hours of water and class time. Upon successful completion of this class, participants should be able to skipper a sloop in light to moderate wind conditions and will posses the knowledge to carefully venture into heavy wind and weather conditions. All classes are at Community Sailing's sailing beach shelter on the north side of Standley Lake. Bring bathing suit, towel, change of clothes, sun-screen, food and drinking water. Ages 18-85.
