YOUTH DROP-IN PROGRAM - SAIL ALL SUMMER

AT STANDLEY LAKE

Ages 10-17

Fun in the sun! Experience the exhilaration of sailing in a challenging, yet safe and controlled environment. This Drop-In learn to sail program allows youngsters to choose the time and days that best fit their busy schedule.

A new class starts every day. Using a Sunfish, learn sailboat handling, right-of-way rules, capsize recovery, navigation, meteorology, marine safety and racing. Learning by doing is the style of this class. Instructors begin by "leading" activities and teaching youngsters what they need to know. Gradually, instructors turn the responsibility over to junior sailors as ratings are earned.

Junior sailors may plan a sail, captain a boat, navigate the lake, take friends and family sailing and eventually teach others their new sailing skills. After earning Community Sailing ratings youngsters can continue sailing Sunfish and higher performance boats such as Lasers, Hobie Cats, and 18' sloops to build their sailing skills all summer.

Youth drop-in hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
