Mission Statement
Community Sailing of Colorado, Ltd. is a non-profit organization, organized in 1994, providing access to sailing and sailing instruction for youth. Instruction is based on the Cooperative Learning Concept; kids teaching kids, combining sailing, leadership and instruction.
Community Sailing of Colorado’s mission: provide a place, the means, and the knowledge for youth to learn and refine the skill and art of sailing in a safe, controlled and fun environment. The programs emphasis focuses on youth ages 8-17.
Community Sailing of Colorado’s vision: motivate youngsters toward reaching their full potential in life, using sailing as a tool, taking advantage of its inherent qualities to encourage positive growth, self esteem and behavior.
Community Sailing of Colorado’s Economic Mission: provide a summer camp sailing experience to all youth at an affordable cost regardless of parents income. Youth that can not afford tuition are admitted on a sliding scale basis.
Community Sailing provides youth with a safe place to learn basic and advanced sailing techniques: and upon learning the basics of sailing provide the use of sailboats to practice sailing and further that knowledge. Instruction is on a practical and theoretical basis. Instruction includes practical on the water classes and practical and theoretical shore classes. Sailing subjects include sailboat handling, right of way rules, marine safety, navigation, meteorology and sailboat racing.
Skills learned in a sailing environment include safety, communication, planning, thoughtful decision making, self-dependence, dependence on crew, trust and other skills that will carry on into a youth’s adult life.
CSC’s program is a summer camp located at Cherry Creek State Park in Aurora and Union Lake in Boulder. The program operates Monday through Friday, from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Sailing classes are conducted by professional US Sailing, American Red Cross and Community Sailing certified sailing instructors; and are assisted by volunteer instructors. All testing is conducted by US Sailing, American Red Cross and Community Sailing certified instructors.
