To provide encouragement, incentive, and easy measurement of advancement we have created the CSC Sailing Achievement Rating Program.  It gives sailors an opportunity to learn boat handling skills and sailing knowledge in a challenging and fun environment.  As sailors successfully completes each rating level they can be certain they are acquiring the skills needed to handle a boat safely and efficiently.

Junior sailors between the ages of 8 - 17 are welcome to participate in CSC’s sailing programs.

There are 8 checklists that will be used to monitor each student’s progress, and help keep track of which skills are learned and which skills need to be practiced.  Students should look forward to earning a Silver, Gold or Solo Rating in a novice 1 week program.  Each student’s motivation and ability will predicate which ratings are awarded.

When a sailor performs all the skills without assistance and to the Instructors satisfaction they shall be awarded a certificate that acknowledges their rating.

The process to master each rating level should include:

  1. Student learns the skills on land and on the water.

  2. Student practices the skills in-group and/or individually.

  3. Student receives more instruction and/or demonstration (if necessary).

  4. Student is then tested, and skills verified by a CSC instructor.  In actuality as student’s master skills they are checked off.

  5. Completed checklist is given to Program Director.

  6. Certificate is awarded by instructor to each student.

EVALUATIONS

A CSC sailing instructor must observe skills as they are performed, and verify that they are performed proficiently without assistance.  There is no partial credit.  Skills not satisfactorily demonstrated may be retested anytime, as many times as necessary.

BENEFITS

The completion of each rating level helps with placement in sailing activities at CSC.  For example, a student who passes the Solo rating level can be included in advanced and racing classes.
