Beginner Level

Description
Embark on an adventure the whole family can enjoy! Join us for once-weekly, 3-hour sessions over 4 weeks for this family-friendly sailing class. For families with children ages 8 and up who have no previous sailing experience, this class covers the fundamentals of sailing through a hands-on approach. Participants learn basic boat handling, rigging, terminology, steering, points of sail, and sail trim. Sailing on an 18ft boat with the instructor makes for an easy introduction where participants try their hand at the various sailing tasks onboard. Each family must include at least 1 adult and participants should feel comfortable swimming in a PFD in natural/darker water. Each family member participating in this class must register individually. Pricing is per person, not per family.
Location: Boulder Reservoir
Day: Thursdays
Time: 5pm – 8pm (June, July, & August) | 4:30pm – 7:30pm (September)
What do we need to bring?
- Closed-toed shoes are required
- Bring your own water for drinking
- Remove all jewelry (especially rings)
- Gloves are recommended: bike gloves and gardening gloves work great
- Long hair should be secured in a low ponytail or braid
- If you already have your own PFD, you’re welcome to wear it. Otherwise, we’ll provide you with one.
- Towel
- Sunscreen
- Wear a bathing suit or clothes you don’t mind getting wet in. Colorado weather can change quickly. Cloud cover, rain, and a windy day can suddenly feel cold. Please pack a sweatshirt, or rain pants/rain jacket for blocking wind, and a dry change of clothes if you wish.
What if there is Inclement Weather?
