Camps typically run Monday through Friday, 9:00am-3:30pm.

Scheduling is by far the most difficult facet of our programs. Camps and classes require advanced registrations so that we can properly prepare for your experience. It is very difficult for us to adjust to last-minute changes and cancellations. If you cancel your registration it also means that we could have booked other folks in your place. Even though we may have waitlists people tend to make other plans when they don’t get a spot so the process of activating someone from a waitlist is incredibly time-consuming and often not successful. For these reasons, we must strictly enforce the following cancellation policies. Please contact us if you have any questions:

Policy:

  • More than 2 weeks prior to your start date, you can receive a full value credit toward future programs. This credit does not expire.

  • There will be NO refunds nor credit given within 2 weeks of your start date and no transfer options. All forfeited tuition costs will be reallocated to our scholarship program.

If you need to make changes to any registration please email admin@communitysailing.org as soon as possible to provide the name of the participant, and which camp(s) you need to adjust.

If you are requesting a credit because of an incredibly unique or extenuating circumstance that does not align with our cancellation policy, please click here.

In accordance with the contracts we hold to do business in our current locations, we are required to adopt a policy of no direct refunds.

Hi {Primary parent first name} –

We are so excited to have {Participant first name} join us next week for {Session name}! Your Boulder Shore Director is:

Zoe (she/they): 973-464-9258

Please contact her (texting is best) if you have any on-site needs relating to your child during camp hours. Below is some basic info about camp to get you started:

What to Bring:

  • Water – Please pack enough water for the entire day (insulated bottles and ice is recommended). We do have water refill stations available but in our strictly outdoor environment, it is difficult to regulate the temperature.
  • Lunch, sunscreen, towel, and close-toed shoes (water shoes, crocs with a back strap, or old sneakers work great).
  • If you have them – Personal PFD and helmet (bike helmets are fine). The ones we supply will be assigned to each camper for the week. Although it is definitely not mandatory, if you are able to provide your own, your child will most likely be more comfortable in gear they’re used to wearing.

Inclement Weather

We will do our best to keep campers in camp all day unless there is an imminent ongoing weather-related safety concern. In the event, that there may be an early dismissal we will do our best to verbally warn everyone at drop off, but we do ask that parents monitor the weather and be prepared to pick up children in a timely manner if extreme inclement weather is imminent. We will be texting parents in such a situation, so please be cognizant of this.

Tipping

Our instructors work very hard to ensure the safety and enjoyment of our summer camps. Please consider tipping if you feel that your child has had an exceptional experience in our camp . It is certainly not expected or required but is always appreciated (suggested amount $20).

Boulder Reservoir Rules

Please remember that dogs are not allowed inside Boulder reservoir at any time between Memorial Day and Labor Day. If you are doing anything other than actively picking up or dropping off your participant,  you must pay the park entry fee.

Enter the park and follow Reservoir Road by staying right to pass the beach and parking lots. Follow signs to the Sailboat Ramp. Specific Directions to Our Cherry Creek Reservoir Location: We are located in Cherry Creek State Park in Greenwood Village. Come in through the West entrance (by Cherry Creek High School). Then just follow the road (W. Lake View Rd) down and take your first left onto Marina Access Rd. Follow that road past the signs to the boat ramp/ inspection station and look for the CSC signs directing traffic flow in the parking lot near the Lake House. This is where we will go through our check-in process, and then direct your child to the area in which their Camp Instructor will be awaiting them.

We have actually shifted away from automatic discounts to be able to allocate more funds through our scholarship program and target families who need it and give less automatically to families who may not. This is why we don’t offer sibling or multi-camp discounts. The only automatic discount is our early registration pricing ($25 off before April 1).
Our scholarship program is very robust though and provides funding for many reasons, not all of which are financial. We focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion through BIPOC and LGBTQ scholarships. We also offer scholarships/discounts for military families, school staff, healthcare & mental healthcare workers, diversely-abled families, and Marshall Fire victims. Anyone can apply through this scholarship application which will provide some more details about our process. You only need to complete the form once for the whole family, just be sure to list all participants on the form. If a discount or partial scholarship makes this camp more accessible for you, we definitely want to help. We also want to be sure that our scholarship funds can impact the most number of people possible so please only ask for what you truly need.
In 2022 CSC raised over $34,000 through private donations from individual members of our community which was then used to fund 81 scholarships. There’s a reason “Community” is our first name. We are so appreciative of the support we receive that helps us share our passion for sailing with EVERYONE.
*A note about registration: We try to process all applications within 1 week, but times may vary. So if you would like to lock in your camp or class registration while you wait for your scholarship application to be processed, you can choose the 50% deposit with payment plan option. Scholarships can be applied retroactively by canceling remaining due payments and refunds.
  • Water – We ask that all participants pack enough water for the whole day to help us limit high touch areas involved in water refill stations, but we will have water available if need be.
  • Lunch
  • Sunscreen
  • Towel and change of clothes (if you’d prefer not having a potentially wet kiddo in the car)
  • Close-toed shoes (old sneakers work great). For safety reasons, flip-flops are not allowed.
  • Highly recommended – Personal PFDs and helmets (any hard helmet works fine). We will be assigning each camper their personal PFDs and helmets to use for the week. These will be disinfected daily prior to being put away for the evening. Although it is definitely not mandatory, if you are able to provide your own, this would be best.
  • IF APPLICABLE to the relevant timeframe of the camp (would be noted in your camp reminder email) 2 cloth face coverings – neck gaiters/buffs or cloth masks are fine. Please be sure that neck gaiters are properly sized to fit securely over your child’s nose and mouth. We do require that you have 2 in case one is misplaced or in the case that someone uses a neck gaiter as it is traditionally intended and it gets wet.

Please note that all of our camps take place in an open-air, outdoor setting.

  • At this time we are not requiring masks or social distancing during our summer camps, which all take place in an open-air, outdoor setting.
  • Children are now allowed to sign up solo and sail with other children (we no longer require predesignated buddies)
  • We are not mandating vaccines to participate nor are we asking for vaccination status.
  • Knowing that we continue to be in a state of flux with variants and outbreaks we will reserve the right to require masks and/or social distancing onshore if it becomes appropriate for us to do so in order to keep camps safe AND fully staffed.
  • We kindly ask that any individual who is exhibiting COVID symptoms self-test and only come to camp if they have a negative test result. Additionally, if any participant has confirmed exposure to someone else who has COVID that they monitor symptoms and only come to camp after testing negative.

It depends on your location.

Boulder Reservoir: Entrance Fees are included in your registration costs. Community Sailing pays the State Park and Boulder Reservoir entrance every time you are entering the park for your child’s camp. Please tell the gate attendant that you are entering for a class with Community Sailing of Colorado.

Cherry Creek Reservoir: A State Parks Pass is required to enter Cherry Creek State Park. If you don’t have a State Parks Pass you can choose to pay the daily rate at the front gate or the font gate kiosk if there are no gate attendees.

PLEASE NOTE: Beginning in 2023, Colorado residents will automatically get a $29 Keep Colorado Wild Pass during their annual vehicle registration through the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) unless you manually opt-out. This new pass gives all Coloradans easy access to state parks and the opportunity to support our great outdoors and wildlife in a meaningful way.

We will always try and sail every day for the duration of camp but know the weather doesn’t always cooperate. The safety and well-being of our campers and staff are of utmost importance. In the event of severe inclement weather that may impact our regular sailing activities, we have established the following policy to ensure the safety of all participants.

  • If inclement weather conditions are preventing us from regular on-water activities for an extended period in the afternoon, we will shift gears and engage students in various STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities and games in a sheltered area.
  • Parents and guardians will be sent a notification via text message and email to the primary account holder about this and given the option to pick up their child early if they so choose.
  • Our staff will remain on-site for the duration of the regularly scheduled camp day to ensure the safety and supervision of those campers who choose to stay or guardians who don’t have the option to pick up early.

Our camps range from 7-12 participants depending on the level and skill set. Each camp has 1 instructor and at least 1 or 2 Junior Instructors. So the typical ratio of instructors to participants ranges from 2:7 to 3:12.

For all camps and classes, an $11 fee per registration fee is charged to cover administrative costs and organizational usage permits.

Code of Conduct: The following rules will help ensure a safe, rewarding, and cheerful learning environment. Appropriate behavior is expected at all times while on CSC property, with staff or parent volunteers and while representing CSC at away events. Students will show respect for their peers, instructors, and other individuals. Students are expected to cooperate and follow directions at all times:

  • No obscene language, rough-housing or throwing of objects.
  • Life Jackets and helmets will be worn at all times whenever a student is on the docks or in a boat.
  • Boundaries must be observed, both on the water and on shore, as established by the instructors.
  • There is no running on the docks.
  • Students will pick up their own trash and are expected to keep their belongings neat and orderly.
  • At the end of class, students are expected to leave equipment shipshape and must report any damaged or missing equipment.
  • Students must be picked up promptly. We would ask the parent to contact the coach if he/she knows they may be late.
  • CSC cannot be responsible for lost or stolen personal items. Please leave items of value at home.

Discipline Policy:

First Occurrence: When a problem surfaces the first action is to be taken by the instructor.

  • The student will be spoken to and made aware of the problem. Positive reinforcement will be part of the attempt to solve the problem.
  • The student will have to spend a few minutes in time out. On land, the time out area may be determined by the instructor. On the water or onshore at the time out area will be determined by the instructor.
  • Program Director will have a conversation with the parent if he/she decides it is necessary to improve the situation. We believe it is important for everyone to be in the loop.

Second Occurrence: If the problem isn’t resolved the Program Director will be notified by the instructor.

  • The Program Director will speak to the student involved.
  • The student will be asked to speak about the problem and give their view of occurrence.
  • The student will be asked to suggest what they think is a good solution to the problem.
  • The parents will be updated by the Program Director. Fair and consequential actions will result.

Third Occurrence: The student(s) will be asked to stay home if the safety self or others is compromised.

  • Any further significant problems will be reviewed by the Program Director & Parent and the student may be asked to leave CSC for the remainder of the session. A full written report will be submitted from this meeting and kept on file.
