Adult Learn to Race 2 Class

Intermediate Level

Register >
Description

Join us for once-weekly, 3-hour sessions over four weeks designed for adults who have already taken our Learn to Sail class—or who already know the basics and are ready to step into racing.

These classes take place during the Denver Sailing Association (DSA) weekly racing series, giving you the opportunity to build skills in a real race setting. What better way to learn than by applying your knowledge on the starting line?

Each session begins with an onshore lesson covering a focused racing topic—such as starts, mark roundings, tactics, or rules—followed by on-the-water coaching as you participate in the race. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a supportive, welcoming racing environment while building confidence, strategy, and boat speed.

This Level 2 class will cover racing tactics and strategy: lay lines, reading the wind, spinnaker work, and decision making.

Pre-Requisite: Adult Learn to Race 1 Class

Location: Cherry Creek Reservoir

Day: Thursdays – 4 week session

Time: 5pm – 8pm

When: June, July, & August

What do we need to bring?
  • Outdoor clothes that you would wear on a hike are great. It does get colder as the sun sets so we recommend an extra layer. We will hold class if it’s raining (as long as there’s no lightning) so please dress accordingly.
  • Closed-toed shoes are required
  • Bring your own water for drinking
  • Remove all jewelry (especially rings)
  • Gloves are recommended: bike gloves and gardening gloves work great
  • Long hair should be secured in a low ponytail or braid
  • If you already have your own PFD, you’re welcome to wear it. Otherwise, we’ll provide you with one.
  • Sunscreen
Cherry Creek State Park Access

If you opted out of getting a State Parks Pass the last time you renewed your car registration, the park entrance fee is required.

What if there is Inclement Weather?

Weather in CO can be tricky and ever-changing. We will do our best to notify you at least 2 hours before class begins if we need to cancel. If conditions change and we are onsite with weather that is unsafe to go out in, we will focus on land instruction under shelter.
