Intermediate Solo Sailing Camp

Intermediate Level

Register >
Cherry Creek Summer Camps Schedule >
Sailing Progression Skills Checklist >
Description

Start sailing solo! This camp is perfect for anyone who has had at least 2 weeks of any Learn to Sail Camp, has an instructor recommendation, OR has previous experience sailing solo. Sailors will develop independence on the water in their own RS Tera sailboat. The goals of this camp include tacking, jibing, sail trim, all points of sail, boat handling, knot tying, and efficient capsize recovery. Returning Intermediate campers can graduate to a larger sail for a more challenging experience in order to safely prepare them for the next step.

Pre-Requisite: At least 2 weeks of any Learn to Sail Camp and an instructor recommendation, OR has previous related experience sailing solo at another sailing school.

Moving Up: Taking at least 2 weeks of an Intermediate level camp is required before moving on to the Advanced level. This camp can be taken as many times as needed before getting an instructor recommendation to move on to Advanced. For any Intermediate sailor who has aged out of this camp, please email admin@communitysailing.org for camp recommendation.

Location: Cherry Creek Reservoir

Camp Hours: Typically Monday through Friday, 9:00AM – 3:30PM daily

Ages: 8 – 13

What do we need to bring?
  • Water
  • Lunch
  • Sunscreen labeled with your child’s first and last name
  • Towel and change of clothes (weather changes rapidly in Colorado. Having a change of clothes and a towel works wonders when a thunderstorm rolls in and the temperature drops.)
  • Close-toed shoes (old sneakers work great). For safety reasons, flip-flops are not allowed.
What if there is Inclement Weather?

We plan to sail each day of camp, weather permitting. The safety of our campers and staff is our top priority. If severe weather prevents on-water activities, we transition to sheltered STEM lessons and engaging camp games until it is safe to return to the water.
